Advanced Materials and Process Engineering Laboratory

The Advanced Materials and Process Engineering Laboratory (AMPEL) is an interdisciplinary research centre focused on six themes: advanced materials processing, biomaterials and medical devices, electronic and photonic materials, energy and the environment, nano and molecular technology and quantum computing. AMPEL is dedicated to making leading-edge knowledge on composite materials and structures available to industry.

BioProducts Institute

The BioProducts Institute (BPI) brings together multidisciplinary experts to unlock the full potential of materials, chemicals and fuels produced in nature. The institute collaborates with industry on projects grouped around the themes of biocatalytic transformation and biomass engineering, bio-nanoparticle enabled materials, biobased polymers and carbon materials, biorefinery systems and bioproducts ecosystem analysis.

Blusson Quantum Matter Institute

The Blusson Quantum Matter Institute (QMI) works with local, national and international partners to accelerate the translation of quantum materials research into industry and society. The institute is dedicated to establishing new partnerships, protecting intellectual property rights and exploring new start-up opportunities rooted in cutting-edge science. This work is being done from world-class nanofabrication facilities with highly specialized equipment.

Bradshaw Research Institute for Minerals and Mining

The Bradshaw Institute for Minerals and Mining (BRIMM) develops innovative solutions to the biggest challenges facing the mining industry and trains the next generation of multidisciplinary professionals. These projects focus on the themes of mining microbiome, ore body knowledge, sustainable mine energy systems and water stewardship.

Clean Energy Research Centre

The Clean Energy Research Centre (CERC) is a multidisciplinary research hub developing innovative clean energy solutions at every scale. More than 70 faculty members and 200 graduate students collaborate with partners from industry and government in six key areas: bioenergy systems, electro- and photochemical energy systems, transportation and buildings, carbon capture and decarbonization, policy analysis and data analytics.

Institute for Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems

Over 150 faculty members work with industry and academic partners at the Institute for Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems (ICICS) on collaborative research projects in advanced technology systems. Research cluster areas encompass AI, biomedical imaging, block chain, bionics, marine systems, quantum computing and technology-connected health.
